The 30th Roses
Match, between York & Lancaster chess clubs, took place at Guppy’s Enterprise
Club, Nunnery Lane, York on Sunday 29th May, 2022.
The series began in
1983, and was played every year until 2011, since when it has been in
abeyance.
The York team,
captained by David Smith, with several junior players, scored a superb 9-3 victory
over the visitors, captained by Phil Seery.
It was good to see
so many familiar faces from the wrong side of the Pennines. Thanks to
both captains, and all the players. Particular thanks to Neal Guppy
who opened up the club specially for us.
