NCCU Open Section Won by Northumberland

The NCCU inter-county team Opens section for 2021-22 concluded on Sunday 10/04/2022 when Lancashire played at home to Northumberland managing only to draw.  Northumberland chess has seen something of an upturn in recent years, largely due to the efforts, it seems, of Tim Wall.

This means Northumberland and Yorkshire earn the right to progress as NCCU nominees to the ECF “final stages” Open competitions respectively as “N1” and “N2” in the pairings.  (As N2, Yorkshire is likely to meet a nominally stronger team than does Northumberland in the first round of the final stages.)
