18/11/2021 European Team Championships, 2021
The 23rd European Team Chess Championship 2021, both Open and Women’s events, have been in progress since Friday 12th November at Terme Čatež, Slovenia.
Terme means “spas”. Čatež is pronounced “Chatesh”, and is a village also known as Čatež ob Savi meaning “Čatež by (the river) Sava”. (Savi is both the dative and locative cases of Sava.)
In the Open event, England has so far fielded Michael Adams, Luke J McShane, Gawain C B Jones, David W L Howell and England’s latest GM, Ravi Haria.
After the first 5 rounds, the England Open team stands 21st out of 31 4-board teams, which is somewhat lower than their fifth placing in the initial ranking list.
The England Women’s team was initially ranked 24th out of 31 4-board teams, and are currently bottom of the table, having lost four matches out of 4 actually played, and having scored 1 match point from a bye in round 4. (Thus bye scores as a drawn match.)
Each of the England Open-team players has won only one game in the first five rounds, and in the England Women’s team, only one individual game has been won. The six games won to date below are as follows. To play through a game, click on “play” in the right-most column. (Use the browser’s “back” function to return to this page.)
