York A Bites the Dust!

Competition Controller Andrew Zigmond is usually prompt in getting match results posted to the ECF League Management System, but sometimes the odd result or two take some time to trickle through the system.  So it was with some York results from 13/11/2021.

The continued absence of the Bradford v York A result prompted the webmaster to contact the Competition Controller on the matter, and the latter conceded an (atypical) oversight and duly added the result, which turned out to be something of an historic event.

York A lost!  (See here.)

Looking back, it appears York A last lost a Woodhouse Cup match in 2016-17, specifically on 04/02/2017 when they lost to Sheffield A.  (See here.)

By a curious twist of fate, the three York players who lost on 13/11/2021 also lost on 04/02/2017.  The common factor may be that those three try to win rather than concede a draw, so risking losing, which every five seasons works out as synchronised losing.

So, we await the next York A loss, in about 2026-27!

Between those two losses, an under-strength York A team only drew with an underestimated Alwoodley A team on 17/11/2018, otherwise York A’s results over that period have all been match wins.
