The first point to attract the attention to this event was that, unlike most but very prestigious over-the-board events, 20 or so of the top boards in the Open were being shown live on the internet.  Probing further showed Andrew Ledger’s last-round game against Peter Finn in progress.  This featured a pawn sacrifice to get what was, with any luck, a winning ending (due to a supportable outside passed pawn and a better placed king), with the added feature that both sides promoted a pawn.  This game is the main reason for this report.  So, click here to play through the game Andrew J Ledger 1-0 Peter Finn.
