4NCL On Line League Season 3,
Round 1
The first
round of the new season of the on-line 4NCL (senior) league was played on
Tuesday 26/01/2021.
Last
“season”, Divisions 1 to 5 were each split into 4 all-play-all 8-team
sections, followed by knock-out semi-finals and final contested between
section winners. The bottom division, Division 6, was run as a 68-team
Swiss. That all involved a total of 228 teams.
This
season, the number of teams is up to a record 258, these teams being arranged
in 7 divisions. Divisions 1 to 6 are of 32 teams, while Division 7 is
of 66 teams. The idea of Sections has been scrapped for the new season,
with each Division being run initially as a 7-round Swiss tournament, using
start rankings based on the previous season’s placings. There are then
to be knock-out semi-finals and final in each Division.
Division
1 contains both Chessable White Rose 1 and Chessable White Rose 2, seeded 4 and
11 respectively.
Division
2 contains both Hull & Beverley Romans 1 and Hull & Beverley Romans
2, as well as Bradford DCA Knights A.
Division
3 contains Chessmates.
Division
4 contains Bradford DCA Knights B, Darnall & Handsworth (Sheffield), and Sheffield
Deaf (promoted from last season).
Division
5 contains Chessable White Rose 3 (promoted from last season).
Division
6 contains Bradford DCA Knights C, and St Andrews White Cross 1 (Hull).
Division
7 contains St Andrews White Cross 2 (Hull), Eagle and Child (York), Hebden
Bridge 1 and Hebden Bridge 2, all four being new this time
round, three of them winning 4-0 !
